Here are the most important storylines from this past week:

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson, who won Super Bowl IV with the Chiefs, passed away Wednesday at 87. Clark Hunt, Patrick Mahomes, the Pro Football HOF and former Chiefs commented on the amazing legacy that Dawson will forever leave behind. The Chiefs also payed homage to Dawson with a pregame pullover by Mahomes, No. 16 decals on their helmets and by kicking off their third preseason game with the sugar (or “choir“) huddle. The Chiefs defeated the Green Bay Packers 17-10 in their third and final preseason game. Guys like tight end Matt Bushman and linebacker Darius Harris impressed, while players like cornerback Joshua Williams and LB Jermaine Carter had rough games. Unfortunately, Bushman’s great performance was negated by an injury. He suffered a broken clavicle during the game, which could lead to him going on injured reserve. Rookie CB Trent McDuffie also entered the NFL’s concussion protocol after hitting his head while making a third-down stop. Chiefs TE Blake Bell underwent surgery on a hip flexor injury, which will likely put him out of action for several months. Offensive tackle Lucas Niang will also miss action after being placed on the reserve/PUP list. And running back Derrick Gore was waived from the team’s IR with an injury settlement, which actually bodes well for his chances to eventually return to the team in the future. Roster cuts are coming in hot! Follow our roster cut tracker as the Chiefs chip away and get the roster down to 53 men before Tuesday’s 3 p.m. CT deadline. We have some ideas on who may make the team with our final 53-man roster projection.
