Most college basketball fans immediately think of the North Carolina Tar Heels when they see the acronym UNC.
But Gilbert Arizona Elite Prep girls basketball guard Lilah Moore’s word association to those letters is University of Northern Colorado.
On Sunday, Moore tweeted her verbal commitment to the Northern Colorado Bears for the 2022-23 season.
“I chose UNC because of the staff and players connection,” Moore said. “Coach (Kristen) Mattio and her staff are proven winners, bring a contagious high energy, and are establishing a basketball culture that I had to be apart of.”
The 5-foot-10 guard chose Northern Colorado over her two additional Division I college offers from Quinnipiac and Wofford.
As Arizona Elite Prep’s starting point guard last season, Moore averaged 11.3 points, (34% from 3-point range, 83% free throws), 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Moore is one of the state’s best ball-handlers who transferred from Phoenix Pinnacle, where she was one of the Pioneers’ top players, to Arizona Elite Prep following her sophomore year. She plans to major in business.
