Coco Gauff COVID-19 news: USA rising phenom ruled out of Tokyo 2021 Olympics after positive COVID test – DraftKings Nation

Coco Gauff made history as the second youngest US player to make the Olympics, but she won’t be competing at the Games after all. Gauff revealed she tested positive for COVID-19 and will be withdrawing from the Tokyo Olympics.

Gauff is coming off a quarterfinal appearance at the French Open and fourth round finish at Wimbledon and was expected to be one of the headliners at the Olympics. The 17-year old has yet to win a major tournament, but is slowly rising as a tennis star.

With Gauff withdrawing, the Americans are now down three tennis stars at the Games. Sofia Kenin and Serena Williams also withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics. Jennifer Brady is the highest ranked USA women’s player remaining in the competition.

Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka remain the frontrunners for the gold medal. Barty is coming off a win at Wimbledon, while Osaka makes her return to the court after withdrawing from the French Open citing mental health concerns.
