Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken is now among the highest paid assistant coaches nationally after the school gave him a huge raise this offseason.

Monken will make $2 million annually after coming off a national championship season in his second season with the Bulldogs, according to information obtained Thursday by the Athens Banner-Herald in an open records request.

That’s a $750,000 raise from the $1.25 million Monken made last season.

Monken, 56, was set to make $1.4 million this season in the third year of a three-year contract. Georgia did not release any information about a new or extended contract for Monken, who also is Georgia’s quarterbacks coach.

Three assistant coaches in college football hit the $2 million salary mark in 2021, according to USA TODAY’s assistant coaches salary survey, and all three have moved on to head coaching jobs.

Oklahoma coach Brent Venables made $2.5 million last year as Clemson defensive coordinator while Virginia coach Tony Elliott received $2.15 million as Clemson offensive coordinator and Duke coach Mike Elko made $2.1 million as Texas A&M defensive coordinator last year.

Ohio State will pay defensive coordinator Jim Knowles $1.9 million in annual compensation and he’s also getting a one-time bonus of $138,500, according to the Columbus Dispatch. LSU defensive coordinator Matt House will be paid $1.8 million.

Alabama’s new contract figures for 2022 include defensive coordinator Pete Golding at $1.73 million, according to the Tusacloosa News.

Georgia is paying co-defensive coordinators Glenn Schumann and Will Muschamp $800,000 each this year. Former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning, now Oregon’s head coach, made $1.7 million last year for the Bulldogs.

Monken’s new total compensation took effect on Jan. 15, according to the school.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart hired the former offensive coordinator with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2020 season. Monken also was head coach at Southern Miss.

Georgia ranked No. 10 nationally in scoring offense at 38.4 points per game last season and ranked No. 1 in the SEC and No. 4 nationally in yards per play at 6.98.

Monken is the position coach for Stetson Bennett, a former walk-on who finished fourth nationally in passing efficiency during the Bulldogs’ run to the national title.
