Wildman Named to USA Volleyball VNL Roster – Penn State University Athletics – GoPSUsports.com

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State senior outside hitter Brett Wildman becomes the latest Nittany Lion to be rostered with USA Volleyball as he is listed on the 2022 USA Volleyball Nations League (VNL) roster.

Wildman is one of 25 players on the roster that includes eight athletes from the 2022 collegiate ranks along with several national team veterans, including Penn State alumni Aaron Russell (’15).

Wildman put together another spectacular season for the Nittany Lions in 2022 that saw him earn First-Team All-America honors (Penn State’s first since Russell in 2015) and his second EIVA Player of the Year award.

The Virginia Beach native’s third All-America nod overall came after a career year for the outside hitter. He set personal single-season bests in kills (302), hitting percentage (.342) and aces (41) in 2022.

He has also climbed up the program career charts with 128 career service aces, good for fifth most, while nearing the 1,000 career kill mark at 981 currently.

Wildman’s third AVCA All-America honor after his 2021 second team nod and 2020 honorable mention makes him the first Nittany Lion to collect three career All-America awards since Dennis Del Valle, who was a four-time All-American from 2008-11.

Wildman is one of eight Nittany Lions to be a three-time AVCA All-American: Javier Gaspar, Chris Chase (four times), Ivan Contreras, Jose Quiñones, Keith Kowal, Max Lipsitz, and Del Valle.

Russell has enjoyed a rock-solid season professionally in 2022 with Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in Italy and rejoins the U.S. roster after missing the 2020 Toyko Olympics with an injury.

A competition roster for VNL matches will be chosen from withing the 25-man roster. The U.S. has 12 matches lined up from June 8-July 12 in three different countries: Brazil, Bulgaria, and Japan.
